Unity of the Body Through
Movement and Asanas
Yoga can be a wonderful adjunct to treatment sessions. A good, dedicated yoga teacher is able to sequence poses (asanas) in such a way that allows for a deeper opening of the body. Alignment is key to obtaining this opening and strength to progress to more advanced poses.
A yoga teacher with this training can provide a keen, trained eye for observing alignment in each pose. A thorough understanding of the anatomy of the body and actions of each muscle is necessary. Knowing which muscle needs to contract to allow its antagonist muscle to release and knowing how the muscles are attached to the bone allows the body to approach ideal alignment. When the bones are properly aligned, the body can function as a whole and support the poses (asanas) properly without extra muscular effort.
